VMI focus our service offerings
around the Server, Desktop and DR infrastructure
as this is where our experience lies. Within each
of our service offerings, a similar methodology
approach is taken, Assess, Design, and Deploy. By
following this methodology, a well planned, tested
solution can be implemented to achieve business
objectives and requirements.

This is the starting point of all virtualisation
projects, where in order to provide a solution we
must first completely understand the following:
- The business objectives
- The infrastructure including:
- The current infrastructure issues
- The current infrastructure utilisation
requirements
- The current Power, Cooling and maintenance
costs associated with the infrastructure
- The current SLA's in place for the infrastructure
- The Current Disaster Recovery solution in
place, if any.
Once this assessment stage has been completed, a
report will provided to the business to show detailed
information and a choice of tailored solutions that
can be implemented to optimise the infrastructure
in line with the business objectives. For example,
if VMI assess was being used to look at server virtualisation
the report would identify what servers where suitable
for virtualisation, how many physical servers would
be needed to host the virtual machines, what virtualisation
platform should be used, the carbon cost before
and after, the cost of the entire solution and a
ROI that can be achieved.

The design stage is the most important aspect of
any solution as it documents the logical and physical
layout of any new infrastructure that has been decided
upon using the information obtained during VMI Assess.
VMI Design provides:
- Detailed design of the solution based upon
the information of VMI Asses, the decisions
made by the business, and VMI Consultancy's
expertise
- A document that represents how the solution
should be implemented in line with vendor best
practices as well as VMI's experience
- A document that can be used as a future tool
to add to the infrastructure and grow the environment.
Once the solution is designed, VMI deploy can be
initiated to proceed with the implementation. The
following components make up VMI Deploy
- POC environment
- Pilot environment
- Production Solution implemented
POC and Pilot stages are strongly recommended but
not necessary; VMI Deploy can be implemented fully
or partially depending on the business needs and
other factors such as time scales. VMI consultancy
can fully tailor our methodology as well as out
solutions to mean that a solution is deployed in
a timely manor as well as within budget. |
